Dental Implants in Tuggerah

teeth and implant illustrationOur Bluewater Dental team is committed to helping you maintain your smile for life. Dental implants are the closest thing to natural teeth and can be an ideal restoration for patients missing one or more teeth.

What Is an Implant?

A titanium screw is surgically placed in the bone below the missing tooth. This screw fuses with the jawbone to create an artificial tooth root. Once it has healed, we place a crown over the “root,” replacing the missing tooth. Because the screw is now part of your bone, this is an extremely strong restoration and can last for decades with proper oral hygiene.

Unlike dentures, this is a permanent restoration, so you don’t remove it. And unlike a bridge, an implant can help prevent future bone loss.

Who Is a Candidate?

Patients must have adequate bone for the procedure to be successful. In some cases, another procedure, such as a bone graft or sinus lift, must be done first to create a situation where the implant(s) will work. We refer to specialists for these issues.

What to Expect

We’ll start with a thorough examination, including taking impressions to create a study model. We’ll refer you to the imaging centre downstairs for a CT scan to determine whether you are a candidate for this type of restoration and to determine the size and direction of the screw.

At your next appointment, we’ll place the implant, which is a painless procedure. You’ll leave that for three months to heal, then you’ll return to the practice so we can take impressions for the crown. Once the lab has fabricated the crown, we’ll screw it onto the implant, seal it, and you’re done!

Frequently Asked Questions

What are dental implants, and how do they work?

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots made of biocompatible materials like titanium. They are surgically implanted into the jawbone to provide a stable foundation for replacement teeth. Over time, the bone fuses with the implant through a process called osseointegration, creating a strong and durable support for crowns, bridges, or dentures.

Are dental implants a suitable option for everyone?

While many individuals can benefit from dental implants, not everyone is an ideal candidate. You need sufficient bone density in your jaw to support the implant, and your overall health should be good. Certain medical conditions, medications, and smoking can impact the success of implants. A consultation with our dentist can help determine your eligibility.

How long do they last?

Dental implants are designed to be a long-term solution. With proper care, they can last a lifetime. Regular oral hygiene practices, such as brushing, flossing, and routine dental check-ups, are essential to maintain the health of the implant and surrounding tissues.

Is the implant procedure painful?

The implant surgery is typically performed under local anaesthesia, and patients often experience minimal discomfort during the procedure. Afterwards, some mild pain and swelling are common, but they can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers. Dr Keshwara (Dentist) will provide post-operative care instructions to help you manage any discomfort.

How much do dental implants cost?

The cost of dental implants can vary depending on various factors, including the number of implants needed, the type of restoration (crown, bridge, or denture), the location of the dental practice, and any additional procedures required. Our dentist can craft a personalised treatment plan and cost estimate. Dental implants are an investment in your oral health and quality of life, as they offer long-lasting benefits.
