Children’s Dentistry in Tuggerah
Helping kids establish good oral hygiene at a young age can set the stage for healthier teeth and gums for a lifetime. At Bluewater Dental, we focus on preventative care in a safe, friendly environment to help your child get accustomed to visiting the dentist.
What to Expect
We recommend bringing your child in for dental care as soon as they get their first tooth. The earlier they experience non-threatening dental care, the better. By the time kids are five or six, they’ve seen scary images on TV or heard “horror stories” from their friends. So getting them used to the dentist can help prevent that fear from setting in.
At a child’s first appointment, often all we’ll do is ask them to open wide so we can look in their mouth. If they’re comfortable sitting in the chair, that’s great—but if not, they can sit on Mum’s lap.
NEW PATIENTS
Depending on your child’s comfort level, we may polish and apply fluoride, but we let them set the tone. As kids get older, we’ll progress to removing tartar. We may recommend fissure sealants to help keep the teeth clean and free of bacteria that causes decay.
At your child’s appointment, we’ll talk to you (and them, if they’re old enough) about oral hygiene and dietary advice. We keep it simple for children, explaining which foods are good for their teeth and which are unhealthy.
When we’re all done, your child can select a toy from our treasure box—we want their whole experience to be positive, from start to finish.
Orthodontics
When kids are about ten or eleven, we’ll evaluate their teeth to determine if they need orthodontics. If so, we will refer you to a local orthodontist.
